Here’s a look at this week’s bad beats:
1. NHL – Tampa Bay Lightning at Montreal Canadiens Moneyline (7/5/21)
The Tampa Bay Lightning were so close to winning the Stanley Cup on Monday night in Montreal, but the Canadiens didn’t like the idea of the Bolts hoisting the cup in Canada. Heading into Monday night, the Lightning led the series 3-0.
The Habs took their first lead of the series after Josh Anderson scored in the first period. Tampa Bay retaliated in the second period with a goal from Barclay Goodrow, tying the game 1-1. In the third period, Montreal’s Alexander Romanov scored, but so did Tampa Bay’s Pat Maroon. So…this game went into overtime! Just 3:57 into overtime, Anderson scored again for Montreal, and the Canadiens defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2, winning their first game of the series. Bad beat for the Lightning moneyline bettors, but honestly, I am happy for the Habs. It would have been sad if they hadn’t won any games and then had to see Tampa Bay celebrating in Canada.
2. MLB – Houston Astros at Cleveland Indians Moneyline (7/4/21)
The Houston Astros are currently sitting in 1st place in the AL West. They were on the road in Cleveland this past weekend, facing the Indians for a total of four games. After winning the third straight game 3-2 on Saturday, it seemed likely that they would sweep and win the fourth.
However, at the bottom of the 8th inning, Cesar Hernandez homered for the Indians, tying the game 3-3. After a scoreless 9th inning, the game went into extra innings. In the top of the 10th inning, Yuli Gurriel scored on a fielding error for the Astros, giving them a one-run lead. The Astros defeated the Indians 4-3 in extra innings, finishing with a clean sweep. Unfortunate ending for Indians moneyline bettors on Sunday, but props to the Astros for coming back after losing three straight games against the Baltimore Orioles.
