Bad Beats #33
Close only counts in horseshoes. If you’re betting on sports, being close is just a bad beat. Maybe you missed the over by a point. Maybe your team doesn’t cover the spread. Maybe the underdog actually won the game. Each week produces new sports betting upsets.
Here’s a look at this week’s bad beats:
1. NHL – New York Islanders at Boston Bruins Moneyline (5/31/21)
The Boston Bruins led the series 1-0 prior to Monday night’s game against the New York Islanders. The Islanders were up 3-2 in the 3rd period. With about five minutes left in the 3rd period, Boston’s Brad Marchand scored on the power play to tie the game 3-3, forcing it into overtime.
In overtime, New York’s Casey Cizikas scored for the Islanders, giving them a 4-3 win and tying the series at 1-1. Way to go, Islanders. But what a bad beat for Bruins fans and moneyline bettors.
2. NHL – Carolina Hurricanes at Nashville Predators Moneyline (5/27/21)
The Carolina Hurricanes advanced to the Second Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Thursday after defeating the Nashville Predators 4-3 in overtime. Overtime is so trendy lately! Nearly 14 minutes into the 3rd period, Dougie Hamilton scored for the Hurricanes, tying it 3-3.
The Canes were out for blood in the overtime period. Just about a minute in, Sebastian Aho scored a goal and the Hurricanes defeated the Predators 4-3. There was a lot of pressure on the Preds heading into this game, as the Canes led the series 3-2 and needed just one win to advance to the next round. Bad beat and unfortunate ending for Preds fans and bettors, as they were so close to winning this game against the Canes.
