Bad Beats #35
Close only counts in horseshoes. If you’re betting on sports, being close is just a bad beat. Maybe you missed the over by a point. Maybe your team doesn’t cover the spread. Maybe the underdog actually won the game. Each week produces new sports betting upsets.
Here’s a look at this week’s bad beats:
1. NHL – Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche Moneyline (6/8/21)
The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 on Tuesday in an overtime thriller. This gave the Golden Knights a 3-2 series lead. The game was tied 2-2 heading into the overtime period. Just 50 seconds into overtime, Mark Stone scored for the Golden Knights, and that ended the game. Bad beat for the Avs moneyline bettors, even worse of a beat for those who bet on them to win the Stanley Cup. The Golden Knights also defeated the Avs 6-3 in the following on Thursday, punching their ticket to the next round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Way to go, Vegas!
2. MLB – Los Angeles Angels at Arizona Diamondbacks Moneyline (6/12/21)
The bottom of the 3rd inning fared well for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. Stephen Vogt, Riley Smith, Eduardo Escobar, Christian Walker and David Peralta all scored. Yup, they finished with five runs. FIVE. Based on the third inning’s performance alone, it seemed likely that the D-backs would finish with the win. But…that didn’t happen. Instead, the Los Angeles Angels decided to make a comeback. In the top of the 4th inning, Anthony Rendon homered, putting the Angels on the scoreboard. Juan Lagares scored a run after Philip Gosselin singled. Diamondbacks still led 5-2.
In the top of the 5th inning, Rendon doubled and both Max Stassi and Justin Upton scored. The Angels were down by just one run. At the bottom of the 7th inning, Arizona scored again, but Los Angeles came right back in the top of the 8th. 6-5 D-backs. Rendon really did have himself a night. In the top of the 9th, he hit a sacrifice, allowing Jared Walsh to score. Walsh tied the game 6-6. Also, in the 9th, Jose Iglesias doubled, and Stassi scored. Iglesias also went on to score, and that gave the Angels an 8-6 lead. The Diamondbacks scored a run in the bottom of the 9th, but that wasn’t enough, as the Angels won the game 8-7. Unfortunate ending for Arizona Diamondbacks moneyline bettors.
