Bad Beats #26
Close only counts in horseshoes. If you’re betting on sports, being close is just a bad beat. Maybe you missed the over by a point. Maybe your team doesn’t cover the spread. Maybe the underdog actually won the game. Each week produces new sports betting upsets.
Here’s a look at this week’s bad beats:
1. NBA – San Antonio Spurs at Dallas Mavericks Moneyline (4/11/21)
This was an unfortunate ending for the Dallas Mavericks. The game was tied at 117 with 19.4 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The San Antonio Spurs had the ball with one second left on the clock. DeMar DeRozan made a jumper for the Spurs, giving them a two-point lead. However, with 0.1 seconds left, the Mavs got the ball to Luka Doncic. Doncic attempted a three-pointer but missed it. So, the Spurs defeated the Mavs 119-117.
Bad beat for the Mavs moneyline bettors. If only DeRozan hadn’t made that shot. Or, if only Doncic had made the shot.
2. NBA – New York Knicks at Boston Celtics Spread (4/7/21)
The Boston Celtics were 3.5-point favorites against the New York Knicks on Wednesday. After Jayson Tatum made two free throws with 4.9 seconds left, the Celtics led 101-96, putting them up five points. This would have been a safe cover. However, RJ Barrett had to go and screw everything up for Celtics spread bettors.
With one second left in the game, Barrett made a meaningless three-pointer. However, it wasn’t all that meaningless for everyone. It was meaningless for the Knicks and the Celtics, but definitely not meaningless for Celtics or Knicks spread bettors. This three-pointer put the Knicks down by just two points. The Celtics defeated the Knicks 101-99, and this last second three gave the Knicks the cover at +3.5.
3. NBA – Milwaukee Bucks at Golden State Warriors Moneyline (4/6/21)
Kelly Oubre Jr. won this one for the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday. With 7.7 seconds left in the game, Brook Lopez got fouled, sending Oubre to the foul line. Oubre made both free throws, putting the Warriors up 122-121.
The Bucks had a couple more shooting opportunities after Oubre made the free throws. Milwaukee’s Khris Middleton attempted a three-pointer but was blocked by Golden State’s Andrew Wiggins. Pat Connaughton got the rebound and went for the tip shot for the Bucks but missed it. The Warriors defeated the Bucks 122-121. Tough luck for Bucks moneyline bettors.
