Bad Beats #28
Close only counts in horseshoes. If you’re betting on sports, being close is just a bad beat. Maybe you missed the over by a point. Maybe your team doesn’t cover the spread. Maybe the underdog actually won the game. Each week produces new sports betting upsets.
Here’s a look at this week’s bad beats:
1. NBA – Utah Jazz at Minnesota Timberwolves Moneyline (4/26/21)
The Utah Jazz are currently sitting in first place in the NBA Western Conference with 44 wins and 17 losses. One of those 17 losses came on Monday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now, this is pretty hard to believe considering the Timberwolves are in 14th place in the Western Conference. While the Jazz have won 44 games, the Timberwolves have lost 44.
However, on Monday night the Timberwolves pulled off an impressive win. With five seconds left in the game, the Jazz were up 104-103. But with 4.2 seconds left, D’Angelo Russell made a layup, giving the Timberwolves a one-point lead. The Timberwolves defeated the Jazz 105-104. Bad beat for all those who bet on the Jazz moneyline at -500. Good beat for those who bet the Timberwolves moneyline at +370.
2. NBA – San Antonio Spurs at Washington Wizards Spread (4/26/21)
The San Antonio Spurs were 3.5-point favorites going into their game against the Washington Wizards. Washington’s Bradley Beal tied the game at 133 with 15.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter, sending it into overtime.
With 5.3 seconds left in overtime, there was a foul on Washington’s Davis Bertans, sending San Antonio’s Patty Mills to the foul line for two free throws. Mills made both free throws. The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Washington Wizards 146-143. The Spurs just needed one more point to cover. Tough luck for Spurs spread bettors.
3. MLB – San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers Moneyline (4/25/21)
The Los Angeles Dodgers were up 7-1 at the bottom of the 6th inning after Chris Taylor hit a three-run homer. The 7th inning was scoreless. However, the San Diego Padres got within two runs of the Dodgers in the top of the 8th inning.
By the top of the 9th, the Padres tied it at 7 after Fernando Tatis Jr. scored. The 10th inning was scoreless. In the top of the 11th, Tatis Jr. scored again, giving the Padres the lead for the first time all game. The San Diego Padres defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-7. Bad beat for Dodgers fans and bettors. They were leading the entire game and then lost by one in extra innings.
