Bad Beats #31
Close only counts in horseshoes. If you’re betting on sports, being close is just a bad beat. Maybe you missed the over by a point. Maybe your team doesn’t cover the spread. Maybe the underdog actually won the game. Each week produces new sports betting upsets.
Here’s a look at this week’s bad beats:
1. NBA – Portland Trail Blazers at Phoenix Suns Moneyline (5/13/21)
Never sleep on Phoenix’s Devin Booker. The man is an animal, and he won the game for the Phoenix Suns on Thursday. With 2.4 seconds left, Portland’s Norman Powell was fouled, sending Booker to the line for two free throws. Booker made the first, tying the game at 117. He then made the second, and the Suns went up 118-117. The Suns defeated the Trail Blazers 118-117.
Good day for Booker and the Suns. Not so good day for the Portland Trail Blazers moneyline bettors. The Suns will face whoever wins the Play-In Tournament game between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.
2. MLB – Chicago Cubs at Detroit Tigers Moneyline (5/15/21)
The Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers game on Saturday resulted in a Tigers win and extra innings. The Tigers tied it at 7 at the bottom of the 7th inning. The 8th and 9th innings were scoreless. In the top of the 10th it looked like the Chicago Cubs had a chance after Javier Báez scored a run. The Cubs went up 8-7.
However, in the bottom of the 10th, Niko Goodrum scored, tying it at 8. JaCoby Jones also scored in the bottom of the 10th, and the Detroit Tigers defeated the Chicago Cubs 9-8. Bad beat for Cubs moneyline bettors, but props to the Tigers for pulling out a win in extra innings.
