As it has for every year since 1941, the Charles Schwab Challenge is being held at Colonial Country Club once again this year. The course is a Par 70 that plays just over 7,200 yards. Colonial has smaller than average green sizes, 84 bunkers and four water hazards. It’s worth noting that we have a smaller field size this week, as well, with just 121 golfers slated to tee off on Thursday. The winning scores have been 12-under or lower in 12 of the last 14 tournaments here with a winning margin of just a shade over one stroke. In fact, over that span, there have been quite a few tournaments that need extra holes.
Here are some of my favorite bets of the tournament on Tipico Sportsbook.
Will There Be a Playoff?: Yes, +300
That brings us to our first bet. The course has played easy in the past, which historically leads to a tighter margin. If we take a look at the last 14 years, we see a total of four events that went to a playoff. If that rate held true the fair odds for this bet would be closer to +250. That’s a 3.5% difference in implied odds, which makes for a fun sprinkle on a prop bet with an interesting sweat. We’ve all - hopefully - been in position to sweat an outright winner. But, how often do you get to hope for a tie!
Jason Kokrak Top-20 Finish: +185
Jason Kokrak is ranked No. 35 in the OWGR right now and is playing in a pretty weak field at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He’s been a cutmaker the entire year, making a dozen straight cuts to start the season. Kokrak has gained strokes on approach in six of his last eight tournaments. More importantly, to me at least, is my simulator puts him at +147 for a top-20 finish this week. That represents over a five percentage point difference in implied probability, which is more than enough for me to pull the trigger.
