Here’s what you absolutely can’t miss this upcoming week in sports:
1. College Basketball – No. 2 Baylor Bears at No. 17 Kansas Jayhawks (2/27/21 at 8pm)
It’s a fun time of year in college basketball. The final days of February before the madness of March begins. You have to love a ranked-on-ranked matchup on a Friday night. Baylor, ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 Conference, will face Kansas, ranked No. 3, for the second time this season. In their first meeting, Baylor defeated Kansas 77-69.
Kansas was doing pretty well. They won five straight up until Tuesday when they lost to the Texas Longhorns. A win here for Kansas would be huge, potentially sending them back into the top-16. Prior to Baylor’s most recent game on February 23rd, they had not played since February 2nd due to coronavirus protocols. That win against Iowa wasn’t an easy one, but they got it done, coming back from behind.
I like Baylor on the moneyline in this one. I mean, come on. Baylor hasn’t lost a game yet this season (knock on wood). To be completely honest with you, I really like either Baylor or Gonzaga to win the NCAA Tournament. The Bears and the Zags are in a league of their own, as they are both undefeated at 18-0 and 23-0, respectively.
2. College Basketball – No. 14 Texas Longhorns at No. 18 Texas Tech Red Raiders (2/27/21 at 12pm)
As previously mentioned, Texas defeated Kansas 75-72 on Tuesday night…in overtime. On January 13th, Texas Tech defeated Texas 79-77. Texas Tech’s Mac McClung finished with 22 points, five rebounds and two assists in that matchup. McClung is currently averaging 16.9 points per game. But Texas has some solid scorers too. Courtney Ramey is the most crucial player on the Texas Longhorns’ offense. The junior, who is averaging 14.1 points per game, contributed greatly to their victory over Kansas on Tuesday. Ramey finished with 15 points, making two free throws in overtime to give them the lead with a minute left.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders are currently a 2.5-point favorite and -160 on the moneyline. If I were to bet the moneyline, I really like the Texas Longhorns at +130. Texas Tech has been riding the struggle bus, losing three games in a row. They fell to West Virginia, Kansas, who Texas just defeated, and Oklahoma State. The Longhorns are fired up and seeking revenge on this Texas Tech team who defeated them earlier this season.
However, what I like most of all for this matchup is the over. The over/under is currently set at 137.5. I think this will be a higher-scoring game. If you look at Texas and Texas Tech’s last meeting, the total was 156 points. I like to think that each team will be able to score at least 70 points in this matchup.
3. NBA – Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Lakers (2/28/21 at 8pm)
I don’t even need to tell you who the headliners are in this Sunday night showdown. When Steph Curry and LeBron James are playing, especially against one another, it’s going to be a thriller. The Golden State Warriors have won their past two games against the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers, respectively. The Los Angeles Lakers have been having a tough time, losing their last four games. Some of these losses for the Lakers haven’t even been close. On Wednesday, the Utah Jazz defeated the Lakers 114-89. Ouch.
The Warriors defeated the Lakers on 115-113 on January 18th. Curry is currently averaging 30 points per game, which is the second highest in the NBA behind Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards. I like the Warriors on the moneyline in this one.
