WEEK IN REVIEW
The Eagles took home their ugliest win of the year in a 23-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Carson Wentz had his worst outing of the year with four turnovers and a pathetic 123 passing yards and a 61.2 passer rating; all of which were outdone (though not by much) by 7th round rookie Ben DiNucci. The lone producers on the offense were Boston Scott and Travis Fulgham. Scott did an adequate job filling in for injured Miles Sanders, but there were certainly yards left on the field. Fulgham is a rising star. He leads the league in receiving yards since week 4, and emphasized his talent with two impressive contested catches with a 6-78-1 stat total for the night. Wins are hard to come by in the NFC East this year, so the Eagles will have to take what they can get, but they will need to clean up their act if they are going to stand a chance against their 1st place schedule opponents.
NEWS OF THE WEEK
The NFL trade deadline has come and gone, and the Eagles did not make any significant moves. They did waive Jason Croom about 30 minutes before the deadline, but most people didn’t know he was on the team in the first place. The eagles are in an awkward position in first place in the NFC (L)East with little chance of making a splash in playoffs, so it was difficult for them to be either buyers or sellers at the deadline. Based on rumors circulating around the league, it seems as though the Eagles’ top priority was to, once again, trying to unload Alshon Jeffery’s terrible contract. With the NFL salary cap expected to take a major dip next year as a result of league revenue loss, it became exceedingly difficult to offload contracts as has been done in the past with other unproductive players like Brock Osweiler. The Eagles will have to work with who they have in-house and in-network moving forward this season.
THE WEEK AHEAD
The Eagles are on their bye this week, so their only opponent is their reflections in the mirror. Nearly every member of the team, coaching staff, and front office needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror and decide what their story is going to be for the rest of the season. Following the bye week, the Eagles take on the Giants and then face the gauntlet of Cleveland, Seattle, Green Bay, New Orleans, and Arizona. We are going to learn a lot about this team during that stretch. The bye week may serve as an opportunity to hit the reset button and break out of the funk that the team is in. Until the team shows us otherwise, don’t expect high scores from the Philadelphia Eagles.
