JUNE FREE AGENCY
As NFL teams get their first on-field looks at their 2021 rosters, they will be finding areas where they want to improve. There are still several highly-talented free agents who could garner significant interest in the near future.
Last week, we looked at the top players in the league who could be cut or traded in June. This week, we will examine the best fits for the Giants, Jets, and Eagles from the current free agent pool.
New York Giants June Free Agency Wish List
- RT Morgan Moses – The best offensive lineman available is also an opportunity to stick it to a division rival. Moses has been a reliable anchor for Washington for years and is still just 30 years old. The Giants’ offensive line still leaves a lot to be desired and Moses could provide some much-needed stability.
- RB Todd Gurley – The most prolific running back on the market is available for a major discount following a disappointing season last year. Gurley is still only 27 and if the Giants can get a healthy combined season between him and Barkley, they could finally have some stability in the backfield.
- QB Robert Griffin III – This may be appearing like a retro fantasy football team, but RG3 has good football left in him. He filled in very well for Lamar Jackson last season and could provide a viable option if the Giants need to bench Daniel Jones. His rushing ability could help revive their loaded offense if Jones is unable to deliver the ball to their weapons.
New York Jets June Free Agency Wish List
- CB Richard Sherman – One of the leaders of the 49er defense that will be installed in New York. Sherman is still a reliable corner and is tremendously better than any corner on the Jets roster, save for Bryce Hall.
- QB Alex Smith – A veteran backup quarterback who can mentor Zach Wilson throughout his rookie season and provide leadership to a very young team. Smith may have claimed to be retired, but he wouldn’t be the first quarterback to reverse that course for a roster spot in New York.
- CB Cre’Von LeBlanc – The Jets also desperately need a slot cornerback for this roster. LeBlanc was a spot starter in Philadelphia and GM Joe Douglas is familiar with him from his time in both Chicago and Philadelphia. LeBlanc was a key player for the Eagles’ Super Bowl run in 2017.
Philadelphia Eagles June Free Agency Wish List
- CB Steven Nelson – The Eagles don’t have a starting cornerback opposite Darius Slay. Nelson could step into that role and the two could form one of the better cornerback pairs in the league. The Eagles have been linked to Nelson through several rumors but likely can’t meet his salary demands until they move on from Zach Ertz.
- FS Malik Hooker – The free agent with possibly the most upside and the most question marks. Hooker missed almost the entire season due to injury but, when healthy, he is one of the better free safeties in the league. Hooker also has the benefit of his former defensive back coach, Jonathan Gannon (JG), now serving as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator.
- TE Richard Rodgers – Despite being listed third on the depth chart, Rodgers was the Eagles’ most productive tight end last season. Following the expected trade/release of Zach Ertz, the Eagles will need depth behind Dalla Goedert.
